Elon Musk and the March on Washington

Space X is being monsterized by the DOJ for hiring only Americans and people with green cards. As is often the case, I can tie this back to Minnesota. Race-based hiring practices are from Minnesota and Elon Musk’s DNA is from Minnesota. His great-grandfather and grandfather are from here

60 years ago today, two Minnesota Concert Promoters, Hubert H. Humphrey and Roy Wilkins organized what Malcolm X referred to as the “Farce on Washington”.

Another Minnesotan, Bob Dylan was the main musical act. Peter, Paul and Mary sang Dylan’s hit “Blowin’ in the Wind.”  Joan Baez, Dylan’s girlfriend at the time, led the crowd, which included every Progressive politician in history singing “We Shall Overcome.”

Freedom, equality, $2 /hr minimum wage ($19.98 inflation adjusted to 2023) and Affirmative Action were introduced by Sen. Humphrey, former Mayor of Mpls to the DNC in 1948. Humphrey was Majority whip in 1963, after losing the 1960 Democratic Primary to John F. Kennedy*.

8 years later I was born in St. Paul, MN. Elon Musk was born a couple of months later in Pretoria, South Africa and had founded several companies before race-based employment came to that country in 1994.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of the United States decided that Affirmative Action and race-based admissions in college admissions were unconstitutional, unless the college felt like it. This is okay as in my 52 years I’ve never heard a single person say out loud that this policy helped them.

Musk’s defense in the DOJ case is that SpaceX was following the law. He seems to be the only African-American I’ve know of certainly the only one with ties to Minnesota who believes equal treatment under the law is a real thing.

Let’s see how that works, my best wishes.

*Contrary to popular myth there’s no evidence Sen => VP Humphrey and MN gangster Kidd Cann had Kennedy killed, that is a conspiracy theory.
