Mohamed Noor, Kim Potter, and Black History Month

Justine Damond and Daunte Wright

Paul Engh argued during Kim Potter’s trial how much she cared for female victims of domestic assault. He also argued during her sentencing that 60% of the women Minnesota get downward departures from sentencing guidelines.

During the trial, the Prosecution, including the Minnesota State Attorney General and former DNC Chair, Keith Ellison argued for Blakely (upward departure) during their case in chief. The Defense motioned for a mistrial over a day of unrelated testimony forcing the Prosecution to admit they were arguing Blakely.

When it came to sentencing, the State apparently dropped its motion for a harsher sentence. Perhaps they saw this as a political problem. As I recall, Mr. Ellison didn’t have much to say about Mohamed Noor’s sentencing.

It seems that it’s no longer fashionable to mention that Black Lives Matter. Since I saw so many familiar faces who were DEMANDING Mohamed Noor get the maximum sentence in 2019 now decrying the injustice, I thought I had to weigh in on this.

  • Ben Crump, A.L. Brown, and every former Black Lives Matter activist is asking “Why?”
  • Ben Crump compares this as “Apples to Apples” to Mohamed Noor.
  • A.L. Brown can’t believe or understand what he just saw, “How much is a Black life worth?”

The activists formerly known as Black Lives Matter are now demanding maximum sentences for killing Black men.

Perhaps we’ve learned everything useful that we can learn from looking at race.

Maybe it’s time to look at how we hold men and women accountable in different ways.

No two cases are alike.

There are a lot of differences between Daunte’ Wright and Justine Damond that are not just race.

There are some similarities.  Neither were armed.

One was running toward a squad car after months of anti-cop civil unrest.

One was running away from a squad car after months of anti-cop civil unrest.

Some looked at Daunte Wright’s histrionic behavior and believed he was responsible for his own death.

No one looked at Justine Damond’s histrionic behavior and believed she was responsible for her own death.

Mohamed Noor is a man. Kim Potter is a woman.

Justine Damond was a woman. Daunte Wright was a man.

Two of these people were held fully responsible for their actions. Two of them were not.

Rest in Peace Justine. Rest in Peace Daunte.  Peace be with you, Mohamed and Kim.

May we one day all be treated equally.
