Surf Rock Struggle Sessions
Between 1966 and 1976 the Chinese Culture was having a going out of business sale. Chinese student movements like the Red Guard bent on eliminating the four olds, held struggle sessions threatening, torturing, and canceling their teachers much like today.
While the kids in China were mostly peacefully protesting in their classrooms, students in Minnetonka were listening to a private neighborhood concert with the Rolling Stones, and blond kids in Mpls were mocking world events and creating surf music as far from an ocean as you can be on Earth.
The Minneapolis Surf Band, the Trashmen, celebrated this Cultural Hysteria with their funtime hit, “Surfin’ Birds,” giving the bird to a million people suffering in a distant land with “Boppa Oom Mao Mao, Ba Boppa Oomm Mao Mao.”
Just as importantly, Bruce Dayton, Grandson of retailer George Dayton and father of independently wealthy MN Governor Mark Dayton, bought up one of the world’s largest antiquities fine art collections for pennies on the dollar. While some may view this as an art heist, there’ve never been any official accusations of money laundering.
Just as much as wealthy Minnesotans love preserving other people’s cultures, we also really love a good deal. At the time of this very good deal for the Dayton Family, they also launched Target Corporation, inventing the Upscale Discount Retailer.
Target has served as the marketing arm of the Chinese Communist Government’s ethically-sourced manufacturing ever since. Target’s Lake Street Store, made famous during the 2020 Protests, is a piece of important surveillance infrastructure and monitoring partner for law enforcement nationwide.
Leadership and Innovation
Minnesota has been long known as a Center for Innovation (™) and the west metro is no exception. The brother-in-law of St. Paul native Marxist Feminist Kate Millett’s brother-in-law during the Cultural Revolution was President of 3M Asia.
Like Target Corporation, 3M made great partnerships with China by getting in early and developing relationships with like-minded individuals.
Minnesota is also known for leadership and has long been a prototype for political solutions that are often then tried elsewhere in the country.
For example, during the 1918 Flu Epidemic, mail-in signatures were used to pressure Congressman Volstad to support Women’s Suffrage and Prohibition.
In the 2010 Gubernatorial Election, a brand new election administrator accidentally “pushed the wrong button” and gave Mark Dayton 65,000 extra votes in the middle of the night.
In an unprecedented outcome, the Governor’s Mansion was lost despite Republicans winning in key races and taking charge of both the House AND the Senate.
After the election was ratified, Governor Dayton had an after-election party on his public itinerary at George Soros’ New York Apartment.
I’m not exactly certain how that is possible, since George Soros is only a conservative bogeyman in the imagination of Right-Wing conspiracy theorists.
