A year ago, I told the people tweeting #AmberHeardisaLiar that I was going to write an article defending Amber Heard, suggesting that her behavior was actually super common.
The performative outrage was palpable. One might have thought I’d suggested World War II had started with France and Belgium’s invasion of the Ruhr Valley, rather than Hitler’s invasion of Poland.
My point, of course, wasn’t that what Amber Heard did to Johnny Depp was acceptable, but that abusive Women often make false accusations.
Once Depp supporters became upset, by something they believed I was saying, no amount of explanation could clarify. The female supporters came after me in waves for days, mobbing every tweet I made, mischaracterizing what I said, accusing me of not understanding domestic violence, and insisting that I said I hated Women.
Then, I asked the following question, “Would any Johnny Depp supporter with ‘survivor’ in her bio tweeting #AmberHeardHurtsSurvivors be willing to share their accuser’s info so I could get his side of the story for my article?”
Suddenly, the waves and waves of insults and abuse stopped. I was instantly blocked by every person who’d for days, been insisting that Heard was the only Woman who’d ever falsely accused a man.
I have great compassion for most Johnny Depp supporters. They’ve had their worldview dragged through the mud in the last few years.
First, they hear a man they love and admire was an abuser, then find out he’d been framed. Finally, they find out collectively that once a man is accused by a woman, people don’t care about facts, reason, or ethics when it comes to men accused of harming women.
The Shit Stains
To best understand the Depp supporter’s disdain, contempt, and paranoia, you should have some understanding of what they’ve been through.
Armies of Women and men were insistent online that Johnny Depp was an abuser. Any factual evidence to support Mr. Depp’s character or Amber Heard’s guilt was rejected, and Amber Heard’s Flying Monkeys swiftly swooped in to defend her.
To many, this looked like a coordinated attack, but it needed to be, when a Woman is accused of lying, especially having lied to set a man up as an abuser, many Women will naturally rally to shut that story down.
These types of Amber herders, again, are common because there is a collective effort and benefit to keep female victimhood a sacred value within society.
For years, the Depp Supporters have had to watch as Johnny Depp lost opportunity after opportunity and Amber Heard was handed the world on a platter.
She received paid offers to speak at domestic violence conferences as a ‘survivor’, got lucrative ACLU and UN Ambassador gigs, and even dated Elon Musk.
The Elephant in the Court is a Kangaroo
When, Mr. Depp had his day in court against the Sun newspaper who had published obvious, demonstrable, lies, and mistruths. Many Depp supporters imagined a world where he’d emerge victoriously and vindicated.
Again, their worldview, like the worldview of so many others, is that facts somehow matter when men are accused of harming a Woman or hating Women.
There is an entire industry based on the academic discipline dedicated to making sure facts don’t matter.
This discipline spreads through its disciples the idea that Women are not believed. Women never lie about domestic abuse. Women are the ones to be oppressed by their partners.
Given how prevalent this ideology is, it would be easy to imagine a world where no one like Amber would ever dare lie about abuse. No one believes this, of course, but if you question the ideology, you’re treated like a moral pervert.
It’s extremely likely the world is about to find out that even a man with Johnny Depp’s resources and reputation can be brought down by the pointing of a finger or with an obvious setup.
While many are anticipating yet another great court victory, the legal likelihood of a win is small and the reward is little or nothing compared with the losses.
Depp supporters are experiencing a power Women have that is not recognized in society. They’re also being forced to come to terms with an unsettling weakness that even a man of Mr. Depp’s reputation and wealth has.
This trial began on April 11th and people will see the facts.
The world will again get to test the assumptions of a Patriarchy that ignores Women’s suffering and universally privileges men.
The Amber Heard and the Shit Stains and Amber Heard’s Flying Monkeys are going to cry and scream and moan, woke-scold, and shame men and other women into compliance.
I don’t have a prediction about Amber Heard’s countersuit, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if she won.
